As In Life and Fitness, There is no perfect software

The perfect diet does not exist. The perfect exercise routine does not exist. Except the one that meets YOUR needs. Seems to be a basic rule, which is why as a Clinical Informaticist for a leading LTPAC software company, I always ask our wonderful provider clients, "What needs do you have? What problem do you need to solve?"

Dr. John Halamka is one of those sane voices I respect, so I follow his blog. He says he has yet to meet the perfect electronic health record system. Here's an excerpt from his recent post titled "The Perfect EHR" at http://geekdoctor.blogspot.com/2012/02/perfect-ehr.html

The bottom line from every product I've used and everyone I've spoken with is that there is no current "perfect" EHR.   We're still very early in the EHR maturity lifecycle.

In other words, what needs does a system need to fill for you? Think about that while you jog around the block. Then go read his thoughtful article.

Have a great weekend!

Time and Attention (Getting Things Done)

One of my favorite bloggers is Merlin Mann. While researching a GTD concept, I ran across his "43 Folders" web site. 43Folders.com is Merlin Mann’s website about finding the time and attention to do your best creative work. You will find all kinds of great information here, but if you need a place to start, well, start at why it's called 43 folders. What I saw was my old tickler file system that I had modified when I still carried around a thick day planner. Then came e-Mail. And more eMail. And so much email I couldn't remember the correct way to spell EMail. Not that it matters; most important is that it was taking over my inbox. Merlin gave me some ideas for getting things done by putting my time and attention on the things that are important. Enjoy the video. If you do, tell him. If you don't, come back here and leave a comment about why you didn't.

Where the Gold Bees Dream: iPhoneography Mission #24

A Flickr friend of mine does some great work. Laura is currently experimenting, with great success, taking great photos with her iPhone. Take a look; you'll probably like a lot of things, and maybe find one or two order.
Where the Gold Bees Dream: iPhoneography Mission #24: iPhoneography Mission #24: Seek Color I got lucky this week for Mission #24 as I had to run to the antique store for a last minute purchas...
Sometimes my phone looks like a camera, too. Especially when I don't have my Canon T2i or Samsung snapshot or Flip Video with me.

What kind of camera do you carry?

Kodak Shutters Digital Camera Business In Favor Of Licensing, Photo Printing | TechCrunch

Kodak Shutters Digital Camera Business In Favor Of Licensing, Photo Printing | TechCrunch

Can you believe it? Kodak got me started on my favorite hobby. When I was 16 my little Kodak 35-mm was my constant companion. Soon it was a passion and I took over Mom's fruit cellar as a darkroom and did all my own film finishing and enlargements. And now the company once synonymous with picture taking doesn't even sell cameras. Perhaps Cheryl and I were not the only ones that start using Canon (our favorite camera for almost two decades now). But, there will always be a sweet spot in our hearts for Kodak, which is why we collect them for our formal living room. Here is one that Cheryl found (and, sorry, Kodak, the picture of our old Brownie camera was taken a few minutes ago with my iPad2).

Seems to me that Jim Collins has some things to say about that in his book, Good to Great.

Do you have some old photos or scrapbooks from times when we might have been together in the same place at the same time, please send them to me privately by clicking this email link for photos@blogs.docdevore.com. Please! With sugar on it?. Trust me - they won't end up here unless you give me permission.

Because you have your fun assignments for the week, I am going dance around the pool listening to my favorite tunes while thinking about all those great memories captured with my Kodak of old (Send that email.)

Be sure to get some breakfast, and take Clif Bar with you.

Okay, the legal stuff. Listen up.
I am not a doctor. I am not a certified trainer. I am not a professional body builder. I m in better shape and I do know a lot of stuff that those experts told me, but I don't have a paper that says so, and they haven't told me everything they know yet. Or as Uncle Buck said: "You should always consult a professional, like your doctor, before you begin any weight loss program, and you should ask an expert before you try some of the foods and exercise that Cheryl and Doc use." In other words, this blog contains my opinion on what might work and is for folks who are serious about changing their life. It should not be construed as anything more than what I found on my journey, and how I learned to use it. So you have now been warned: Do attempt the journey on your own without consulting a professional or gaining parental approval. And by the way, there is some other legal stuff on this page about who owns the trademarks and photos and copyright stuff. 1. Reconsider the Reasons for Each Resolution
